Keeneland September Sale Graduate Monomoy Girl Dominates Coaching Club American Oaks for Fourth Consecutive Grade 1 Win

July 23, 2018

Grade 3 winners in New York, Japan earn September Sale Bonus

Monomoy Girl, sold at Keeneland’s 2016 September Yearling Sale, recorded her fourth consecutive Grade 1 victory with a front-running, 3-length win in Sunday’s Coaching Club American Oaks at Saratoga.

The 3-year-old Tapizar filly now has eight wins in nine starts and earnings of $1,660,750. Her Grade 1 streak began in April with Keeneland’s Central Bank Ashland (G1) and continued with the Kentucky Oaks (G1) at Churchill Downs in May and Acorn (G1) at Belmont Park in June.

Monomoy Girl’s Saratoga performance led the productive weekend for Keeneland sales graduates. On opening weekend at Del Mar, Keeneland sales alumni swept three Grade 2 races: On Saturday, War Heroine recorded her first graded stakes win in the San Clemente and Catalina Cruiser remained unbeaten in three starts in the San Diego; Catapult took Sunday’s Eddie Read at odds of 21-1.

For their respective Grade 3 victories more than 6,000 miles apart, two September Yearling Sale graduates earned a reward as part of Keeneland’s September Sale Bonus Program. The Bonus Program, initiated last year, rewards the owner (at the time of sale) of a horse sold at the September Sale that wins a Grade/Group 1, 2 or 3 stakes as a 2- or 3-year-old.

On Saturday at Saratoga, Sombeyay won the Sanford (G3). Keeneland will pay Taylor Made Sales Agency, owner of Sombeyay when the Into Mischief colt sold at the 2017 September Sale, a $5,000 bonus for the win.

On Sunday in Japan, Aster Pegasus took the Hakodate Nisai (G3). Keeneland will pay Stonestreet Farm, owner of Aster Pegasus when the son of Giant’s Causeway sold at the 2017 September Sale, a $5,000 bonus for the win.
