Keeneland September Sale Graduates War of Will, Serengeti Empress Top Derby, Oaks Leaderboards Following Saturday Wins

February 19, 2019

Keeneland September Yearling Sale graduates War of Will and Serengeti Empress are the top point earners on the 2019 roads to the Kentucky Derby (G1) and Kentucky Oaks (G1) after dominating wins in the Risen Star Presented by Lamarque Ford (G2) and Rachel Alexandra S. (G2), respectively, on Saturday at Fair Grounds.

With his win in the Risen Star, War of Will earned a $2,500 September Sale Seller Bonus for breeder Flaxman Holdings Limited, his owner at the time of sale. The colt previously earned a $5,000 Seller Bonus for his victory in the Lecomte (G3). Serengeti Empress secured a $7,500 Seller Bonus last fall for owners Brookdale and J. R. Ward Stables when she won the Pocahontas (G2).

The September Sale Seller Bonus Program, initiated by Keeneland in 2017, offers cash rewards to sellers (owners at the time of sale) of horses sold at the September Sale that win Grade/Group 1, 2 or 3 stakes as a 2- or 3-year-old. Sellers receive cash rewards based on the following criteria: $10,000 Seller Bonus for your first Grade/Group 1 stakes win; $7,500 for your first Grade/Group 2 win; and $5,000 for your first Grade/Group 3 victory.
