Keeneland Safety Protocols


The safety of our patrons, staff and horses is of the utmost priority for Keeneland. Please review the information below to familiarize yourself with Keeneland's safety guidelines and protocols.

 

Keeneland's Operations Currently Limited

Keeneland is currently operating on a limited basis at this time due to COVID-19. Please review below for details on entry to our grounds:

  • Only essential employees, owners, trainers, veterinarians, blacksmiths and stable workers are allowed entry to the stable area and racetrack.

  • The Keeneland Shop is open to visitors 9 am - 5 pm, Monday - Saturday

  • Keeneland Mercantile located in downtown Lexington is open to visitors 10 am - 6 pm, Monday - Saturday

  • Anyone with a business purpose requiring access to Keeneland may enter by completing a screening process at entrance.

In order to enter the Keeneland grounds at this time, you must:

  • Enter through Gates 2 and 3 or the Rice Road barn entrance, where you will complete a temperature check. Only those with a temperature less than 100.5 degrees and showing no symptoms of COVID-19 will be granted access. Persons permitted to enter will receive an armband granting access for only that day.

  • Wear a mask covering your face at all times during your stay at Keeneland.

The following operations will remain limited until further notice:

  • Keeneland’s General Office is closed

  • Tour operations, including visits from outside tour companies remain closed

  • The Keeneland Library is closed to patrons, but will open on August 3rd.

  • The Red Mile is open for simulcasting

  • The Track Kitchen will extend closing hours to 6 p.m. to service the needs of our backside

Things to Know Before Your Visit



Due to concerns surrounding COVID-19, the 2020 Keeneland Summer Meet will not be open for spectators.

  • Gates open at 11 a.m.
  • General admission is $5 per person. Children 12 and under are admitted free.
  • Post time for the first race each day is 1:05 p.m. Races are run approximately every half hour.
  • Mutuel windows in the grandstand open at around 12:30 p.m. Drive-thru wagering opens at 8 a.m.
  • Foldable chairs are not permitted in the Clubhouse or the Paddock area, but are permitted in other general areas.
  • Alcohol, coolers, food, grills, tents and selfie sticks are not permitted inside the admission gates.
  • Fans may notice additional security when entering Keeneland's admission gates. Patrons will be asked to open their coats or jackets for visual inspection, and soft checks will be performed on any bags. You may be asked to return traditional backpacks to your car.
  • All bags are subject to inspection at the Admission Gate. Traditional backpacks and book bags are not permitted. Guests may bring strollers, diaper bags, camera bags and purses/pocket books at Keeneland's discretion.
  • Keeneland is accessible to patrons with disabilities. Please call the ticketing office at (859) 288-4299 for more information.
  • Only trained service animals are permitted inside the gates. Service animals will not be permitted inside the Paddock or Walking Ring, due to the safety of our horses.
  • Firearms and weapons are not allowed within the race track gates, regardless of a CCDW permit.
